5 STEPS TO CREATING A LIFE THAT FEELS GOOD

Unsure what you want from life? Do you see other people on social media living their “dream life” but are unsure what yours is? Have you thought about hiring a coach but don't know where to start? Do you generally just feel a bit...lost? Don’t worry, I’ve got you!

I’ve been there, more than once. My journey has been a long and winded one. But I’ve learned some valuable lessons on the way, through life experience and my work as a Spiritual Life Coach and Reiki Practitioner.

Follow the steps below to get more in touch with yourself and what you truly desire in life.

1. Decide how do you want to feel

We live in a material, physically focussed world. A society with an emphasis on what we have; money, home, car, clothing, the latest technology and gadgets, qualifications and certifications. There’s a tendency to chase the next thing, putting ourselves under pressure to work harder to earn more, buy more, achieve more. It can become a seemingly never ending cycle.

But it’s a cycle that can be broken. Here’s the thing - with every material goal there is an underlying desired feeling. For example, wanting more money may stem from a desired feeling of freedom; to travel, share activities with loved ones, reduce working hours to have more time to spend doing the things you enjoy etc.

I invite you to explore how you want to feel in life. What do you desire more of? Write them down - maybe it’s more abundance, joy, connectedness, freedom, peace, vitality, calm, balance, love, fun, happiness, creativity, passion.

Going forward, focus on what you want to create. Where attention goes, energy flows.

2. Identify what those feelings mean to you

Take a moment (right now), close your eyes and take a couple of deep breaths. Focus on the desired feelings you wrote down in the step above, one by one. Feel into them and notice what comes up for you; this may look like recalling fond memories, places, something you’ve read, watched or heard about, an old hobby.

Once you’ve finished this practice, write down everything that came up under the header of each desired feeling. For example:

Peace

Meditation

Removing clutter in your environment

Turning off social media notifications

Unfollowing accounts that trigger you

Setting boundaries with people or work

Spending time in nature

Vitality

Moving your body each day

Regular sleeping pattern

Eating more fresh and wholesome foods

Drinking 2ls of water each day

Breathwork

Complementary therapies like Reiki

These are just examples - write down whatever comes up for you.

3. Connect with your intuition

Everyone has intuition. Yes, you are intuitive!

We live in a world that constantly stimulates us which can disconnect us from our inner guidance, others and the Universe. Our intuition becomes blocked, we can’t hear our inner guidance over the noise of the external world and as a result - we can lose ourselves.

Make space for YOU! Shut off. Turn off notifications. Be still. Allow your intuition to guide you.

Here are few ways you can start to connect with your intuition:

  • Avoid technology for the first hour after you wake up and the last hour before bed.

  • Meditate - 'Insight Timer' is a brilliant free app with thousands of meditations; music, nature sounds, guided meditations, visualisations. Experiment to find what you like best or just give yourself time to sit in silence, observing your thoughts.

  • Walk in nature - with no headphones, phone on silent. Allow your intuition to guide your path and take in your surroundings.

  • Be present - engage your senses during everyday tasks like showering, drinking your morning coffee, playing with a pet or preparing your food. Notice what you see, hear, feel, smell and taste.

  • Get creative - have fun and explore your creativity through things like writing, crafting, painting. Immersing yourself in creativity quiets the rational mind and creates space for your intuition to reach you.

  • Follow your intuitive hunches - this may be feeling the urge to call someone, visiting a coffee shop, taking a different route to work or going on a spontaneous trip. Write down your experiences, the people you met, the conversations you had. The more you follow those intuitive hits, the more you learn to trust your inner guidance.

4. Experiment!

Try new things. Make a list of things that you have thought about trying but haven’t made time for. These don’t have to be extravagant - they could be as simple as trying out a new recipe each week, practicing meditation, taking a yoga class, reading a book on a subject that interests you or signing up to 'Borrow my Doggy' to walk a cute dog once a week!

"The purpose of life after all is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience." - Eleanor Roosevelt

Don’t overthink this process, just let it flow and have fun with it! Nothing is too big or small for your list. You can always add to this list when new things come up too.

5. Start today

When you’ve completed the above exercises, write down an action that you will take today to take you a step closer to how you want to feel. Be intentional - the Universe responds to our intentions (they’re manifestations).

Writing your actions down as specific, measurable steps in a diary or planner can help you stay focussed on creating your desired life e.g. "every Monday I will attend a local yoga class."

When you wake up each day declare how you feel in the present tense e.g. “I am grateful for all of the joy I have experienced and will experience today.” As you continue to do this practice, you will notice that the Universe will align you with more opportunities, people, places and experiences that align with your intentions.

Side note: it’s OK to change your mind, to change the course of your life. If something you have been doing no longer resonates with you, try something different. We are spiritual beings on this Earth to experience life in human form. Have fun with it, experiment and take the pressure off yourself to get it “right”. Because spoiler alert - there is no “right” way to do life!
